Readying for Retirement with MBTI®Complete

High school sweethearts Ron and Gayle had been married for more than thirty-five years.

They had spent their professional lives at different companies and in different professions (Ron in the HR department and Gayle in finance), and now they were both thinking about retiring.

With their home paid for, their kids educated and off raising families of their own, Ron and Gayle were ready to use their retirement nest egg for themselves.

But some couples they knew were not coping well with this new stage in their lives. They seemed dissatisfied and their relationships were suffering.

What could Ron and Gayle do to prepare for a successful transition and avoid the problems their friends were experiencing?

As an HR executive, Ron worked closely with his company's director of training and development. He invited the training director out to lunch and picked his brain on what kinds of tools were available to help people plan for their retirement years. The director recommended MBTI®Complete as an excellent first step toward self-discovery and development.

The MBTI® instrument had helped many people discover their own personality and style preferences, as well as those of their partners, family, and friends. That evening Ron and Gayle each spent time answering the assessment questions and reading their interpretations online.

When they were finished with their individual interpretations, they couldn't wait to share their types with each other.

Ron wanted to find out more about how type informed his knowledge of emotional intelligence. Gayle was interested in how she and Ron might react to the changes retirement would bring based on their different types, as well as how they would behave in especially stressful moments.

Though their plans previously had included only activities they could do together, after learning about their preferences Ron and Gayle realized they would need to build in time apart so Gayle could recharge her social battery privately while Ron went out with friends to keep his enthusiasm level high.

Achieving a better understanding of themselves and each other helped Ron and Gayle equip themselves and their relationship for a more satisfying retirement.
